Chapter 12 Reflection

Religion plays an enormous role in my life. I'm Catholic, along with the rest of my family. We would go to church every sunday, along with the rest of the town I lived in. There is not much diversity in my hometown, and this is why i find reading material, like what's in this chapter, so interesting. At Geneseo, we didn't encounter any problems in the classroom because of religious diversity because everyone was christian. It was neat looking at the chart of religious distribution in the United States. I can only imagine in more diverse schools the problems that occur. (Like religions that require disrupting the normal school day.)

  1. I appreciate how you can understand how more diverse schools may encounter problems when it comes to issues of religion. Unlike you my elementary, middle, and high school were very diverse with people who practiced a diverse amount of religions. I lived in Wheaton, Illinois for a very long time which is the town with the most churches in one area in the nation. These churches being primarily Christian/Catholic churches. This little fact was apparent in our schools-- many Christian groups were formed before or after school to meet around the school grounds. I don't think I ever saw other religious groups meet. It always made me wonder how the Christian population or the school would be affected if another religion ever formed a large group to meet just like the usual Christian groups. I wonder if this would cause any controversy regarding religion or diversity in the schools.
